MCDONALD'S VISION 17 PROGRAM - MULTISITE, MULTISCOPE

Client Need

McDonald’s Canada embarked on a significant initiative, the V17 Program, aimed at modernizing and enhancing the customer experience across its restaurants. Initially, this ambitious program required three separate mobilizations to each site, each addressing different scopes of work. McDonald's Canada sought a more efficient process and turned to DAVACO Canada for a solution.

DAVACO CANADA'S SOLUTION

To meet the program's requirements, DAVACO Canada developed a comprehensive plan to condense the three scopes of work into a single mobilization. Key components of this solution included:

JIT Logistics: DAVACO implemented Just-In-Time (JIT) management for logistics, ensuring that all materials and resources arrived precisely when needed. This approach minimized storage and handling costs, reduced waste, and eliminated delays associated with waiting for supplies.

Skilled In-House Resources: Recognizing the need for specialized expertise, DAVACO hired additional in-house resources with specific skills in electrical, plumbing, low voltage, and HVAC systems. These employees worked in tandem with MEP trade partners to promptly address any on-site issues, facilitating a smoother and more efficient execution.

Early Partner Involvement: DAVACO engaged nine teams composed of both DAVACO employees and trusted MEP trade partners early in the planning phases. This early involvement ensured alignment and readiness, enabling seamless communication and collaboration throughout the project.

By integrating these strategies, DAVACO Canada achieved the goal of completing the three scopes of work in a single mobilization. However a breakthrough came when the team was challenged to finish the tasks within one night.

Through rigorous planning, coordination, and leveraging in-house skilled resources, DAVACO Canada managed to complete the entire scope within a 12-14 hour window, transforming what initially seemed like a complex, multi-day operation into a highly efficient overnight process.

After proving this CPM (Critical Path Method) with a pod of 10 stores, DAVACO replicated the same process in 1525 sites over the course of 3.5 years.

Project Included:

  • Combining three separate scopes of work (demolition, millwork, and mechanical/electrical) into one coordinated mobilization
  • Completion of all tasks within a single 12-14 hour night shift
  • Coordination with MEP trade partners and in-house resources
  • Rigorous planning and execution to protect store operations
  • The simplification and seamless execution of a complex multisite, multiscope initiative
