Leerzame Zinnebeelden can be considered the 18th-century counterpart of Johan de Brune's Emblemata. Unlike most emblem books, which are illustrated with engravings, Spinneker's book contains 84 handsome etchings, all but a few of them designed and etched by V. van der Vinne the Younger.
